Feeding your lawn
Just like other plants, grass requires nutrients in order to grow vigorously and healthily. Lawns benefit greatly from regular feeding which helps keep the grass growing strongly and ensures a deep green colour. The Great Grass service includes the application of fertilizers used by turfgrass professionals, in many cases these will be controlled release products. To give the best results the fertilizers we use contain the correct balance of nutrients but at higher concentrations than the products that can be purchased in retail outlets.
Controlling Weeds & Moss
Lawn weeds can spoil the look and enjoyment of a lawn, and ultimately the garden. At Great Grass we use professional herbicides to control the full range of lawn weeds. These products are not be available from garden centres. A symptom of poor grass growth, moss typically colonises any shaded areas of the lawn. It often appears next to walls, under trees and in areas where soil drainage is poor. To keep moss at bay, we supress it and then discourage it from returning by promoting good healthy grass growth. Occasionally, there may be the need for us to identify and help manage difficult lawn pests and diseases.
Mechanical aeration and scarification
To encourage the grass to grow, it is also important to create the correct soil conditions and to manage the grass to ensure that there is no build up of dead material (thatch) at the soil surface. To achieve this Great Grass uses specialist aerators and scarifiers.
Watering your lawn
During the summer months it may be necessary to water your lawn. Although not essential, you will undoubtedly get the best results if you do. Always try to water your lawn in the early morning. By early morning, I'm referring to around 5 a.m.! This is the BEST time for watering, bar none. Early morning watering is best due to: the lack of evaporation that takes place, low winds that can blow you lawn dry, high humidity and morning dew that adds to the moisture. Early morning watering helps to prevent lawn diseases that can be caused by watering at night because it gives your lawn time to dry by night fall. Obviously, this can be best accomplished with a sprinkler system, unless you just can't sleep, especially during the summer months.
